The Mid-Prairie freshman volleyball team ended the season with a 15-13, 15-5 sweep of Wilton. The win puts the Hawks’ season conference record at 8-1 with an overall game record of 48-19.
Allie Rath served the Hawks to victory, going 15-for-17. Tamra Gustafson and Jenna Brenneman each collected three kills.
Earlier in the month, Mid-Prairie won the championship game 2-1 against Mt. Vernon at the Freshman Tournament in Tipton. The Hawks defeated the Mustangs 3-15, 17-15, 15-12. Jenna Brenneman had a big game, serving 9-for-10 with four kills and two blocks.
The Hawks started the tournament slowly by losing 7-11, 4-11 to West Liberty in pool play. In the second game, the team improved with a 11-2, 11-4 win over Midland and a 7-11, 11-6 split with Mt. Vernon. The Hawks then split 11-3, 4-11 with Linn-Mar to finish third in pool play.
Mid-Prairie defeated North Cedar 15-5, 12-15, 17-15 in the quarterfinals and then Williamburg 15-8, 15-4 to set up the championship showdown with Mt. Vernon.
Jenna Adam, Miranda Schaeffer, Amber Watkinson, Allie Rath, Jenna Brenneman, Tamra Gustafson, and Kelsey TeBockhorst all played well for the tournament.
“We had a great year,” reported coach Jessica Kimm. “I am happy to have had the opportunity to work with a wonderful group of girls that have a real love for volleyball.”
