The Iowa City Waste Management garbage trucks that are picking up recyclables are not taking items to the landfills.
“They did not have enough recycling trucks,” explained City Administrator Doug Morgan Monday, “and they are using the garbage trucks. The items are taken to Iowa City Carton where they are dumped onto a conveyor belt and sorted out.”
He assured residents that “the recyclables are not going to the landfill. It would cost them money to do that and they get money for the recyclables.”
