Born September 23, 1930, in Mannheim, Germany, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Sofie (Moerner) Michl. She attended trade school where she earned a Master’s Degree in Tailoring.
Gertrude M. Semler, 69, of West Branch, died Saturday, December 11, 1999, in the home of her daughter following an extended illness.
Services were Wednesday, December 15, in Barker Funeral Home, West Branch.
Born September 23, 1930, in Mannheim, Germany, she was the daughter of Ludwig and Sofie (Moerner) Michl. She attended trade school where she earned a Master’s Degree in Tailoring.
She married George F. Semler in 1953 in 1953 and came to the United States where they lived in Kalona until 1967 when she moved to West Branch.
She was a tailor most of her life, working at Killians, Stephens Men’s Wear and most recently at Bremers until her retirement.
Survivors include four sons and two daughters and their spouses, Gordon and Sheryl Semler of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Ron and Peggy Semler, previously of South Dakota, Greg and Lori Semler of Cedar Rapids, Gerald Semler and his fiancé Kristen Curtis of Iowa City, Carol and Bruce Hierseman of West Branch, and Bobbi Semler and her fiancé Matt Walshire of West Branch, one godson, Aldean Kuntz of Richen, Germany, twelve grandchildren, and Pat Hayslett, a dear friend who was with Mrs. Semler throughout her illness.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorials may be made to the West Branch Daycare Center.
Barker Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
