Golden Hawk track teams sweep team titles at Tipton Relays

A road trip to Tipton turned into twin team titles for both the Mid-Prairie boys and girls track and field teams as the Golden Hawks soared to the top in the Tiger/Tigerette Relays last Thursday.

  

Girls results

It was an emphatic victory for the Golden Hawk gals as they claimed the team title with a first place score of 180, placing first in eight events. Clinton scored 95 to claim the runner-up spot and the host school Tipton finished third with 86.

First-year runners Jeorgia Evans and Rachel Hostetler continue to shine this season as the freshman duo both took first place in multiple events.

Jeorgia Evans crossed the finish line the fastest in the 100m (12.72) and the 200m (26.64). Hostetler outran the competition in a pair of long distance events, placing first in the 1500m (4:58.22) and the 3000m (10:54.49).

Second place in those events also belonged to Mid-Prairie as Brooklyn Stutzman was the runner-up in the 1500m and the 3000m with times of 5:06.66 and 10:54.58 respectively.

  Harper Pacha and Dessa Poll led Mid-Prairie to gold in a pair of field events with Pacha claiming first place in the shot put (35-08) and Poll finishing first in the discus (120-09). Pacha was also the runner-up in the discus (110-03).

Other notable runner-up finishes came from Sophie Miller in the 100m hurdles (16.94), Kendal Landstrum in the 800m (2:27.38), and Tessa Bombei in the high jump (5-01) 

 

Boys results

It was a close battle at the top of the team leaderboards but it was the Mid-Prairie boys who emerged victorious with a first place score of 106. Ending with 100 points to secure the runner-up finish was Durant and the host school Tipton was third with 97.

When it came to wheelchair events it was a clean sweep for Jayden Staffrod as the Golden Hawk senior placed first in the 101m wheelchair (20.19), the 201m wheelchair (35.59), the 401m wheelchair (1:06.54), and the 801m wheelchair (2:28.89) races.

Another senior to impress was Burke Berry who showed first place strength in a pair of field events. Berry won the gold in both the discus (142-07) and the shot put (52-11.25) events. Teammate Tommy Miller was the runner-up in the discus with a throw of 133-02.

In the 100m it was the speedy freshman, Ryan Henry, who collected gold for Mid-Prairie with a first place time of 11.82. The long jump runner-up spot belonged to Thomas Lueck with a leap of 19-11.50.
