Golden Hawks fall to pair of ranked River Valley softball teams

KALONA

A four-run inning Monday night for Wilton led the way to an 8-3 victory over Mid-Prairie by the 10th-ranked Beavers.

Mid-Prairie led 2-1 in the second inning, but Wilton scored two runs in the second inning, one in the third and four in the sixth to grab its third win in four games.

The loss was the third straight against a ranked opponent for the Golden Hawks.

The Golden Hawks (4-6) get a return game with Wilton on Thursday in Kalona.

West Liberty 7

Mid-Prairie 3

With eyes on an upset last Thursday in West Liberty, the Golden Hawks scored two runs in the opening inning and another run in the fourth to take a 3-1 lead over the fifth-ranked Comets.

Then came the fifth inning.

West Liberty (7-2) scored six runs in the fifth for a 7-3 victory.

Sophie Miller had a team-high two hits and drove in a run for Mid-Prairie. Jersey Jergens, an incoming freshman, hit a double in the fourth inning and wound up scoring on a hit.

Brynn Cassady, Sully Hall and Kylee Daufeldt each had two hits for West Liberty.
