Mid-Prairie’s freshman wave nearly resulted in an indoors conference championship at the University of Dubuque.

Jeorgia Evans, who broke four meet records at the IATC Indoor Championships in March at Iowa State University, won the 200-meter run and the long jump in the River Valley Conference Indoor Championships and Tessa Bombei won the high jump.

Rachel Hostetler, another freshman, added a third-place finish in the 800.

The Golden Hawks, a Class 2A school, scored 87 points to capture second place in the team competition held March 25, finishing behind only Maquoketa, a 3A school.

Evans hit 17 feet, 10 inches for a win in the long jump, equaling her school record leap in the IATC state meet that qualified her for the Drake Relays. She ranks second in 2A. She also won the 200 in a time of 26.34 seconds, defeating Maquoketa senior Taylor Wing by .19 seconds.

Bombei, a teammate of Evans on Mid-Prairie’s basketball and volleyball teams, scored a win in the high jump with a leap of 5 feet. Tatum Nebergall of Tipton also reached 5-0 to tie Bombei.

Hostetler, the younger sister of state cross country champions Danielle, Marie and Anna Hostetler and a starter on last fall’s state championship squad, had a strong third-place finish in the 800.

Mid-Prairie junior Harper Pacha finished third in the shot put with a toss of 33-3.

Mylie Hershberger added a seventh-place finish in the high jump and Ruby Miller was seventh in the long jump.

Other top 10 finishers included Rebekah Wallington, who was eighth in the 800, and Kyrie Poll, who placed ninth in the 400.

The Golden Hawks finished fifth in the 4x200 relay.
