WELLMAN
Mid-Prairie scored 35 consecutive points in the last three quarters of Friday’s 35-7 football playoff win against Union, sending the Golden Hawks into a second-round playoff battle against a team they dethroned as district champions this season.
Mid-Prairie, which has won six straight games after an 0-3 start, will host Mediapolis at 7 Friday night. A win would send the ninth-ranked Golden Hawks to the Class 2A quarterfinals.
The Golden Hawks defeated Mediapolis, last year’s District 2A-5 champion, 24-8 earlier this season. A 5-0 district record carried the Golden Hawks to their first district title in 16 years.
Junior running back Hudson Ehrenfelt ran for 99 yards and two touchdowns against Union, increasing his season touchdown total to 26, second best in school history.
Golden Hawks senior lineman Landon Kos scored his first-ever touchdown on a lateral from receiver Ace Peck.
Blake Swart scored on a 50-yard fumble advance.
