The Mid-Prairie junior varsity football team closed out the season with a 30-6 loss to Clear Creek-Amana last Friday in Tiffin.

The Hawks faced off against a good Clippers team, however they didn’t help themselves by committing several penalties and miscues. The only Mid-Prairie score was set up by a Jon Knarreborg 55-yard kickoff return and finished off by a seven-yard touchdown throw from Blake Hershberger to Tristan Gingerich. That was the only score as the Hawks were able to muster only 24 yards rushing and 69 yards passing on the night.

Despite being banged-up, Hershberger had a good game at quarterback, completing 9-of-15 pass attempts with a touchdown and an interception. Gingerich had three receptions for 22 yards and Kyle Johnson caught two for 20 yards. Knarreborg carried the ball 11 times for 29 yards.

The defense was led by Ryan Swartzendruber who had seven solo tackles. Gingerich and Lucas Casper each had an interception for the Hawks.

In the previous week, the Hawks JV team won in a tough defensive struggle against Eddyville-Blakesburg. The final was 14-8.

The Hawks’ defense set up both scores on the night, first when Cole Kempf blocked a punt and Adam Surley fell on the ball at the Eddyville four yard line. Jon Knarreborg ran the final four yards for the score and Ryan Swartzendruber added a two-point conversion run.

Later in the game, Blake Hershberger recovered a fumble, setting the Hawks off on a drive that ended with a two-yard Tyler Grout touchdown run.

The defense did the rest, holding Eddyville to a single first down in the second half. Leading the Hawks defensive unit were Micah Peck who had five tackles, Cole Kempf who recorded a blocked punt to go with his seven tackles, Blake Hershberger with six tackles and forcing and recovering a fumble, and Josh Allen who forced a fumble and racked up five solo tackles.
