The Mid-Prairie Middle School wrestling team opened their season with a triangular against Tipton and Wilton on Monday, November 1 at Tipton.
Drew Kreman led the team, scoring two wins by fall. Also recording pins were Kyle Michel, Clayton Stephenson, Adam Michaelis, and Craig Kreman. Alan Schweinfurth won his match by a 3-2 decision.
“For a lot of our guys, this was the first wrestling match they have even been in,” said coach Doug Koerperich. “They wrestled well and tried a lot of the things that we worked on in practice.
On Monday, November 8, the Hawks traveled to West Liberty to wrestle West Liberty, Iowa City Regina, and Mt. Vernon. Earning wins were Clayton Stephenson by fall, Drew Kreman by fall, and Craig Kreman by fall.
“We wrestled hard, but we unfortunately got into situations where our inexperience caught up to us,” Koerperich reported.
Still, Coach Koerperich was happy, praising two new wrestlers for the work they have put in so far.
“Sean McGurk and Mike McCall, whom have little experience, have been wrestling well. If they keep at it, they are going to be pretty tough in the future.”
