Three people died Monday morning in an accident occurring in the 1700 block of Hwy 1, roughly midway between Washington and Kalona, according to the Iowa State Patrol.
The accident occurred just before 9 a.m. Dec. 2, when the driver of a southbound Buick Park Avenue attempted to pass a snowplow. When it crossed the center line into the northbound lane, the vehicle crashed head-on into a Nissan Rogue, killing both drivers and the front passenger in the Nissan on impact. A fourth person was injured in the crash.
The Iowa State Patrol released the names of those involved Dec. 4. Investigators say the Buick was driven by John McAndrew, 70, of Fairfield; the Nissan was driven by Charles Person, 54, also of Fairfield. The front passenger in Person's vehicle was Amanda Person, 41. All three were killed on impact.
A 17-year-old in Person's vehicle was taken to UIHC in Iowa City by Washington County EMS for injuries.
