Health board to name new administrator Thursday

Posted

Noting that Candidate G, “at this time” meets all criteria for administrator of the county health department, the Board of Health agreed to officially announce her name Thursday, November 4.   The candidate is expected to start her new duties November 29.

Board member Jack Seward, Jr., said there should be a formal motion to hire candidate G, since the only motion the board has made was to offer her the position.   The board agreed. By the time of Thursday’s noon meeting, there should also be agreement with the candidate on the starting salary of $70,000, at least three (or more) evaluations whose results will determine the planned July 1, 2022 raise.

In Tuesday’s brief noon meeting, members revised the candidate’s professional and personal recommendations, all of which were positive, especially noting she was “hard-working, enthusiastic, plus attention to details and is not easily flustered.

Chairman Cathy Buffington reported that when she first spoke with the candidate, the salary base was explained “and she was okay with that,” and probably would be with the start date.

She added that she would call her right after the meeting with the information about the start date and salary.  There also will be time for the candidate to meet regular employee requirements.

Seward explained he would be out of town Thursday, and would attend Thursday’s session by remote. He also said, “I still do not approve of this choice,” but will support all efforts to “get the department back on its feet stronger than ever.”  He noted his reason for his non approval were “ethical and personal.”

If both board and candidate are in agreement on all terms, the board will submit it’s recommendation for administrator to the county supervisors in one of the three sessions before November 29.
