Visitation is Thursday, May 13, from 7 a.m. in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, with the family present from 3-8 p.m.

Born January 27, 1925, in Iowa County, she was the daughter of Clearson and Marcella (Florang) Polton. She attended rural Eagleville School in Iowa County.

Helen M. Martin, 74, of Parnell died Tuesday, May 11, 1999, in Mercy Hospital, Iowa City, following a brief illness.

Services are Friday, May 14, at 10 a.m., in St. Michaels’ Catholic Church, Holbrook, with the Reverend Richard Okuma officiating. Burial will follow in the Wellman Cemetery.

Visitation is Thursday, May 13, from 7 a.m. in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, with the family present from 3-8 p.m.

Born January 27, 1925, in Iowa County, she was the daughter of Clearson and Marcella (Florang) Polton. She attended rural Eagleville School in Iowa County.

She married Russell (Gus) Martin December 14, 1946. Mrs. Martin was a homemaker and farm wife. She was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include her husband, Russell (Gus); four sons and three daughters-in-law, Richard Polton, Oregon, Mike and Lydia Martin, Parnell, Jim and Brenda Martin, North English, and Chuck and Deb Martin, Parnell; six daughters and four sons-in-law, Connie and Jim Cook, Parnell, Shirley and Tony Choi, Wahiawa, Hawaii, Marcia and Don Sterba, North Liberty, Julie and Jerry Heumphreus, Coralville, Mary Martin, Kalona, and Patty Martin, Williamsburg, one sister and one brother-in-law, Frances and Ivan Ulin, Wellman, nineteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Marge Griffith, one brother, Chuck Polton, and an infant son.

Memorials may be made to Friends of Old St. Michael’s.
