Eighty-nine members of the Simon and Barbara Hershberger family met at Camp IO-DIS-E-CA June 18-20 for their seventh reunion. They came from Florida, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Kansas, Texas, and California, as well as Iowa.
Saturday evening was spent celebrating Barbara’s 100th birthday which will be July 3. She is a resident of Pleasantview Home, Kalona. Her husband died in 1975.
Simon Hershberger and Barbara Bender married December 24, 1922. They were the parents of eight children, Verda Miller of Kalona; John Hershberger, deceased; James Hershberger, deceased; Glenn Hershberger of Wellman; Paul Hershberger of New Smyrna Beach, Florida; Mary Ellen Miller of Boerne, Texas; Norma Hostetler of Hesston, Kansas and Carroll Hershberger of West Liberty.
There are 28 grandchildren, 57 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. One granddaughter and three great-grandchildren are deceased.
The reunions are held every two years with the next one planned for the summer of 2001.
