BURLINGTON

It was a team championship effort for the Highland girls this past week when they took part in the Nike Invitational in Burlington on April 9.

Led by four Huskies placing in the top 10, Highland stood tall over all the competition in the 18-hole tournament at the Flint Hills Golf Course with a first-place score of 384.

Finishing in second in the team standings was Fort Madison with a score of 432 and third place belonged to Van Buren County who scored 464. The meet medalist was Louisa-Muscatine senior Madison Bieri. Bieir was the only golfer to shoot under 90, completing the course with a score of 83.

Not one, but two Huskies shot a 93 to take second and third place. Runner-up honors belonged to sophomore Adisyn Prottsman with her teammate, senior Kelsi Cerny, placing third with the same score.

Right behind these two was sophomore Emersyn Schultz who shot a 96 to place fourth. The final Highland golfer to place within the top ten was junior Danika Kraus, carding a 105 for a sixth-place finish.

The last two Huskies to post scores in this Invitational was Adeline Krotz and Haley Sands.

Krotz, a junior, finished with 11 to place 12th and Sands, a senior, tied for 17th with a score of 119. Overall, 24 individual golfers participated in this tournament.

The Huskies took care of business against the Lady Wolves, defeating Winfield-Mount Union in a dual at Blue Top Ridge in Riverside on April 11.

In this dual Highland was led by senior Kelsi Cerny.

Cerny, who qualified for state last year, carded a 46 to claim the top spot. The runner-up spot was won by junior Danika Kraus who was not too far behind her senior teammate, carding a 47.

Four of the top five sports were claimed by a Highland golfer.

Sophomore Adisyn Prottsman and junior Adeline Krotz finished in third and fourth with scores of 51 and 55 respectively.

W-MU was led by senior Lily Freeman who shot a 59 to place fifth overall.

The last Huskies to land on the individual standings were seniors Halle Hazelett and Allison who both carded a 74 to tie for eighth place.

Up next for Highland is a dual meet against Lone Tree at Blue Top Ridge on April 22.
