Traveling to Columbus Junction for the Columbus Track Invitational on March 20 the Highland Huskies finished in third place out of eight other schools with 116 points.

Only the top three placed schools at this event reached triple digit points, with the first place school being Lone Tree with 158.5 points and the second place school being Van Buren County with 127.5 points.

Senior Mackenzie McFarland took second place in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.92 seconds and in the same event senior MyLei Smith with a time of 15.74 seconds.

Junior Sarah Burton finished in third place in the 200 meter dash with a time of 28.46 seconds. Burton took the top spot at the long jump with her farthest jump reaching 16-05.75 meters

Senior Jessica Kraus placed first in the discus throw, with her best throw traveling 90-04 meters.

Senior Adelynn Kleopfer was the first place winner of the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 18.85 seconds.

For this 2022-23 track and field season Highland lost two seniors from last year, Mackinze Hora and Emma Soukup but added five freshmen to the roster, Emma Cole, Mackenzie Davis, Brena Hazelett, Kealy Roberts, and Siena Stanerson.

Next on the docket for the Highland girls track and field team is traveling to the Mediapolis High School to face off against eight other teams, Cardinal, Cedar Rapids Washington, Central Lee, Fort Madison, Mediapolis, Pekin, Van Buren County, and WACO in the Mepo Girls Meet on March 30.

Then on April 4 the Huskies will once again take a trip to Mediapolis where they will go against seven other schools, Camanche, Danville, Hillcrest, Louisa-Muscatine, Mediapolis, West Burlington Notre-Dame, and Winfield-Mt Union in the Dave Aamodt Relays.
