SIGOURNEY
It’s been quite the successful season for Highland girls golf, and they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.
One week removed from claiming the Southeast Iowa Super Conference team championship for the first time in school history, the Highland girls continued their extraordinary season by winning a regional team title in Sigourney on May 10.
This is the first regional title for the program, and they made history in dominant fashion.
Nine schools competed in this first round regional competition with eight teams recording team scores. Finishing head and shoulders above the pack was the Huskies with a 1st place score of 372. They were the only team with a sub 400 score.
The top two teams advanced to the regional finals and taking the runner-up spot was BGM with 424. This place belonged to the hosting school, Sigourney, with 428.
In the individual standings the top spots were littered with Huskies. Highland claimed first, second, and third place.
Leading the way for Highland was Kelsi Cerny and Adisyn Prottsman. Both Huskies finished with 86 and were the only golfers to end with a sub 90 score.
The meet medalist was Cerny, who shot a 41 on the front nine and a 45 on the back nine, and Prottsman, who shot a 50 on the front nine and a one over par 36 on the back nine, earned runner-up medalist honors.
Joining her teammates in the top three was Emersyn Schultz. Schultz took third place with a 94. Coming in with the next lowest scores was juniors Danika Kraus and Adeline Krotz. Kraus shot a 106 to place 11th and Krotz placed 12 with a 108.
Rounding out the six-person team score is senior Haley Sands. Sands completed the course with a 112 to tie for 16th place along with BGM sophomore Shaye Strong.
Up next for Highland was seeking a trip to state at the Class 1A Regional Finals at Honey Creek Resort in Moravia on May 15.
