Lone Tree’s Vivian Zaruba wrapped up the regular season with a third-place finish in a race hosted by Mediapolis at the Heritage Oaks golf course on Thursday.

Next up for Highland, Hillcrest and Lone Tree is the state-qualifying meet this Thursday at the Kickers Soccer Park in Iowa City.

The top two teams and top 10 individuals will qualify for the state cross country championship on October 28 in Fort Dodge.

Last year in Iowa City, the final girls state qualifier ran a tenth-place time of 22:41. Coincidentally, Zaruba’s third-place time on Thursday at Mediapolis was also 22:41.  She finished 22nd in the state-qualifying meet last season.

Highland freshman Erika Thomann led the Huskies on Thursday, finishing sixth with a time of 23:48. Siena Stanerson also finished in the top 10 with a time of 24:32.

Hillcrest’s Delaney Shaw was 14th with a finish of 25:35.

The Mediapolis girls won the meet with a perfect score of 15 as the other five teams present did not have enough runners for a team score.

Micah Gerber led the Hillcrest boys, finishing sixth with a time of 19:01. While the time was 10-seconds short of his personal record, Hillcrest coach Marty Gingerich was pleased with the time given the conditions.

“This was his best performance to date,” Gingerich said. “It was 51 degrees with northwest winds at 15-35 miles per hour at race time.”

Jesse Blossom came within 13 seconds of his PR as well with a 15th place finish of 20:12.

Jackson Schneider led the Highland boys with a 23rd place finish of 21:24. Brendan Schnoebelen was 28th with a time of 22:21.

Lone Tree senior Jadin Grieser led the Lion boys with a 25th place time of 22:02 and Taylor Alberhasky was 27th with a time of 22:14.

The Mediapolis boys were also meet champs, led by a first-place finish of 16:47 from Solomon Zaugg.
