Another week in the books and the playoff picture is getting clearer.
With two-thirds of the season finished, teams are gearing up to make the final push to be among the final 16 teams in their class playing this fall.
The Huskies kept their playoff dreams alive with a last second touchdown and a win this week would cement them among teams to be taken seriously.
Here’s a look at the area playoff picture.
Highland (4-2)
Status: On the right track.
Last week: Beat Pekin 25-24.
Next up: At Durant (3-3)
The Huskies trailed for most of the game against Pekin but were able to overcome turnovers in a 25-24 win over Pekin. It was an important game for the Huskies in a few ways. Connor Grinstead has definitely arrived as the Huskies’ quarterback, he threw for 182 yards and one touchdown while rushing for two more including the game-winner. He will need to keep that up as the Huskies look to beat a Durant team that has had moments of struggles on offense.
The Wildcats are averaging 18 points per game this year and have a 3-3 record. They tend to go run-heavy, with a 66-33 split between run and pass plays. Nolan DeLong has 97 carries for 599 yards and five touchdowns. Keagen Head has 203 yards rushing on 57 attempts and five touchdowns.
The Huskies were done a favor by Belle Plaine as they beat BGM 18-16, it keeps the Huskies hope for a district title alive. The Huskies play Belle Plaine in Week 9. Belle Plaine is the only team to be 2-0 after two weeks of district play.
If you’re Highland, you should cheer for Pekin as they take on BGM and Cardinal as they take on Belle Plaine.
