The Highland School Board approved a number of annual financial reports at its regularly scheduled meeting Monday.
Among them was the certified annual report for the 2023-24 school year, which is a compilation of Highland Schools District, and federal and state financials.
Others included the special education supplement for the past school year, including a deficit of more than a half million dollars, transportation report, and modified supplemental report for English Language Learners.
Total expenditures were $11.4 million, including $4.3 million for salaries.
The special education shortfall is covered in a report to the state, and occurs due to multiple factors, including the number of students and teacher salaries.
FFA Convention
Seven Highland students, and FFA teacher Shayla Seils, will be attending next week’s National FFA Convention in Indianapolis.
The School Board approved the trip Monday.
Students are planning to attend workshops at the convention, as well as other activities. They found sponsorships to help cover the $350 needed for the trip.
Early Grads
Seven Highland seniors were approved for early graduation in December, pending academic requirements.
Those applying and approved: Mya Castro, Emilee Clifton, Aliscea Crane, Lilly Floryanovich, Jonathan Jackson, Charlotte Price and Dalay Vargas.
Board Action
The Board approved a list of SIAC committee members.
The Board approved a number of policy updates.
The Board approved the resignation of Sonya Stanerson, junior high track coach.
Next Meeting
The board will hold its next formal meeting at 5 p.m. November 11. A work session is scheduled for October 28.
