The Southeast Iowa Super Conference crown was on the line this past week for boys golf and in a competitive field of 15, Hillcrest earned a top five finish.
Through 18-holes of a conference tournament played at Heritage Oaks Golf and Country Club, the Ravens finished with a final team score of 345 to place fourth.
Central Lee, led by the individual champion efforts of Mylan Lowenberg, placed first with a low score of 324. Van Buren Country was the runner-up with 332 and Winfield-Mt Union ended with 335 to take third.
Over 80 golfers competed at Wapello and the top of the individual leaderboards were closely contested with Lowenberg placing first (77) and Van Buren’s Will Cocherell earning a runner-up finish (78).
Rowan Miller and Liam Schrock led the way for Hillcrest as they both ended with twin scores of 79.
Miller caught fire in the back nine, connecting on one birdie and then making six consecutive pars. The junior made 10 pars in total. Liam Schrock, a senior, made 11 pars to go along with two birdies.
Lawson Schrock was the next highest placing Raven, shooting 93. Fellow Hillcrest teammates Ethan Yoder and Matthew Chalupa both ended with scores of 94. The last Raven to post a score was Rylan Good who carded 97.
Lone Tree results
The Lions earned a 10th place finish at this year’s conference tournament with a score of 407.
Leading the charge for Lone Tree was Brock Nebergall. Nebergall finished just one stroke shy of the century mark, shooting 99 to place 53rd. Right behind the sophomore was senior teammate Lukas Fuhrmeister who shot 100 to place 57th.
Another senior to impact the team score was Jack Patterson who placed 58th with 102. Both Carter Schott and Owen Eden shot identical scores of 106 to place 63rd and 64th respectively.
The final Lion to post a score was Will Schweitzer, as the sophomore placed 77th with 121.
Highland results
The Huskies ended the conference tourney with a score of 470 to place 15th in the final team standings.
Highland was led by its sophomores as Issac Giesmann and Ladnon Roling shot 114 and 116 respectively to place 71st and 73rd.
Tyson Grout and Presten Smith, another sophomore duo, rounded out Highland’s team score by placing 75th and 78th respectively with cards of 117 and 123.
Ryker Miller was the last Husky to post a score as the senior shot 129 to place 80th.
