After falling short of securing back-to-back trips to state last season, Hillcrest boys golf made sure their one year hiatus from the state scene did not become a trend.
Earning the right to continue their season at state, the Ravens traveled to the Heritage Oaks Golf Course in Wapello and earned a top three finish in a 1A boys district meet last Monday.
Winning districts with a low score of 335 was North Linn and Easton Valley was the runner-up with 344. Hillcrest finished with 346 to claim third place.
Liam Schrock has put together a stellar senior year for Hillcrest and he continues to impress by taking the top spot in an individual leaderboard which featured 81 golfers in total.
The senior surged to the top by shooting 41 in the back nine and 34 in the back nine to finish with a first place score of a three over par 75. He made eight pars and three birdies en route of becoming the individual district champion
Also earning a top five finish for the Ravens was Rowan Miller. The standout junior shot 79 to place fourth, making 11 pars on the day.
Ethan Yoder and Lawson Schrock rounded out Hillcrest’s team score with scores of 95 and 97 respectively to place 40th and 47th. Also competing at districts for the Ravens were Rylan Good and Matthew Chalupa who finished with twin scores of 100 to place 56th and 59th respectively.
Up next for the Ravens is traveling to Waterloo to compete in the IHSAA State Golf Meet taking place from May 27-28. Hillcrest’s last appearance at state was in 2023, where they capped off an undefeated season with a state championship.
