Hillcrest Academy boys shut down visiting Wapello Jan. 28 with a crushing press that produced 17 steals and a 62-40 victory for the Ravens.
Eli Ours and Kobe Borntrager were the top scorers for Hillcrest with 18 points each. Noah Miller had 14 points, many of them in the key against taller Wapello players.
Half of Ours’ points came from back of the 3-point arc.
The game started even with Wapello ahead 10-9 after the first eight minutes. Hillcrest started its press in the second quarter and went into the locker room at half with a 25-20 lead. The Ravens continued to pull away in the third and fourth quarters.
On Thursday, Jan 30, the Ravens traveled to Winfield-Mount Union where the team won 59-44.
Again, Eli Ours and Kobe Borntrager were the top scorers, each with 20 points. Bontrager pulled down 8 rebounds. Ours was four for eight from 3-point range.
Hillcrest jumped out to a quick lead and never let up. The Ravens were ahead 20-11 after the first quarter and took a 38-22 lead into the halftime break.
