Students at Hillcrest Academy have been busy preparing for their spring musical production of Disney and Cameron Mackintosh’s Mary Poppins, a musical based on the stories of P.L. Travers and the Walt Disney Film.
Senior Ivana Ebersole plays Mary Poppins in the story of the Banks family who live in a big house in London on Cherry Lane. Things are not going well for the family; the children, Jane and Michael, are out of control and are in need of a new nanny. Jane and Michael have their own ideas about what sort of caretaker they should have, while their parents — and in particular, Mr. Banks — are insistent on someone strict for the job. When a mysterious young woman named Mary Poppins appears at their doorstep, the family finds that she’s the answer to their prayers, but in the most peculiar way. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones she has a profound effect upon. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “anything can happen if you let it.”
Mary Poppins will be presented Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, March 27 at 3 p.m. General admission tickets for all three performances can be purchased by calling (319-656-2073) or emailing (office@hillcrestravens.org) the school office or at the door of each performance. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for seniors (65+) and $5 for students. Doors will open 30 minutes before each show. Its going to be supercalifragilisticexpialidocious so get your tickets now!
