Hillcrest topples LM, Wapello to stay undefeated

Posted

Hillcrest traveled to Columbus Junction to take on the host school, the Louisa-Muscatine Falcons in a Southeast Iowa Super Conference dual at the Cedarcrest Golf Course on April 20. Taking care of business to remain unbeaten on the season the Ravens defeated the Falcons, 174-201.

This was the fourth straight victory for the Hillcrest golf team, and this win also improved its conference record to 3-0 overall.

On a very windy day where cold hands were all but guaranteed if not in a pocket or garbed with gloves the medalist of the SEISC dual was Hillcrest senior Luke Schrock with a 41 and not too far behind was his brother, sophomore Liam Schrock who was the runner up with a score of 43.

The Ravens took four of the top spots in the standings overall. In third place was Hillcrest freshman Rowan Miller with a 44. Senior Jace Rempel tied for fourth place, with Louisa-Muscatine senior Xander Bieri, with a 46.

Rounding out the Ravens scoring freshman Ethan Yoder finished the dual with a 76.

Finishing the day with a 176 overall, this was Hillcrest’s best team score of the season and they did it in 20 plus mph winds, with wind gusts at over 30.

Hillcrest 169, Wapello 187

Getting to host a home meet for the first time this season the Ravens welcomed Southeast Iowa Super Conference foe, the Wapello Indians, at the Kalona Golf Course on April 24. Still maintaining an unblemished record the Ravens handled Waplleo and defeated them, 169-187.

This victory gives Hillcrest a 4-0 record in conference play and improves its overall record on the season to 5-0.

Hillcrest’s score of 169 not only superseded the season best score they posted against Louisa-Muscatine, but it was also the best score the Ravens have posted in several years.

Senior Luke Schrock once finished at the top spot at this home SEISC dual but this time he shared the limelight with his brother, sophomore Liam Schrock. The Schrock brothers both finished the dual with a 41, giving them both medalist honors.

Luke was able to connect on two birdies and four pars while Liam was able to sink in one birdie and four pars.

Not too far behind the Schrock brothers was Hillcrest senior Jace Rempel. Rempel was able to card a 42, making four pars on the day.

Hillcrest freshman Rowan Miller was the next top performer for the Ravens with a 42, followed by sophomore Seth Ours’ score of 46, and rounded out by senior Josiah Beachy’s score of 60.

Up next for Hillcrest (5-0) will be traveling to Winfield to take on Winfield-Mount Union (5-1) at the Twins Lakes Golf Course in a SEISC dual on April 27.
