HILLS
The Hills City Council met on Wednesday, May 29, for their regular meeting, delayed from the typical Monday to observe Memorial Day. This meeting was highlighted by the council updating their employee handbook to retroactively add vacation time for part timers, backdating the change to January 1.
The council also added additional bereavement leave and changed vacation time, allowing it to carryover into a new year instead of expiring at the conclusion of the year.
These changes ensure part-time employees can now take vacation, and city employees who have accumulated vacation time can keep it once the year ends.
The council plans to discuss the entirety of the handbook in a workshop session at the end of the year, combing through it to make any other changes deemed necessary by the council before the new year.
In addition to changing parts of the handbook, the council also approved a bid from Edwards Painting to paint the Community Center. The council hopes the work will be done before the Fourth of July. If Edwards Painting does not believe they can do it before the Fourth of July, the council is opening to letting them start working after the holiday.
