Sign up for the Small Hog Operation Payment (SHOP) program began on August 9 and ends on September 24. Producers who marketed fewer than 2500 hogs during the last six months of 1998 and are still in the business of producing and marketing agricultural products are eligible for this program.
Hogs marketed under fixed-price or cost-plus contract are not eligible for the SHOP payment, but will be counted against the limitation for hogs marketed.
Producers who applied in the earlier SHOP sign up with the 1,000 hog limitation need not apply again. Payments for those producers will be processed automatically by the local county Farm Service Agency Office.
