DES MOINES
Danielle Hostetler of Mid-Prairie, a three-time state cross country champion, and sophomore sprinter Jovi Evans return to the Drake Relays this week.
They are among six Mid-Prairie track athletes who qualified for the high school division of the national meet held at Drake University’s Blue Oval.
Jayden Stafford, a three-time state champion in wheelchair racing, is the top seed in Friday morning’s 400 coed final.
Hostetler, who finished third in the girls 1500 at last year’s Drake Relays as a junior, returns in that event Saturday afternoon. She is ranked third in Iowa Class 2A in both the 1500m and 3000m.
Emma Lueck, a senior, will make her Relays debut in two events. She’ll compete in the girls long jump Friday, then in the 4x100m relay with Evans, Lueck and Myli Hershberger on Saturday. Evans, a member of last year’s first- and second-place sprint relays at the state championships, will run the anchor leg.
The Golden Hawks are among 96 entries in the 4x100.
