After a tough three-game stretch, the Highland Huskies are still in position to lock up a postseason spot with a win over Pekin on Friday. 

The Panthers (0-7) have lost every game by at least two touchdowns this season, while Highland (2-5) is looking to finish 3-3 in the district with a win at home in the final game of the season. 

“It would be great to go out and win on Friday — fantastic for the seniors, who are a good group of people,” Highland coach Scott Morel said. “To be able to make the playoffs has been the goal from the start of the season.”

The top four teams from each of the eight districts make the postseason in Class A. Highland could finish as third in the district with a Columbus upset of Alburnett.

The Huskies have played the top three teams in the district over the last three weeks, beginning with a tight 26-21 loss at Alburnett. On Friday, the Huskies traveled to Lisbons and fell 43-0 to the district-leading Lions. 

Lisbon rushed for 346 yards, led by seniors Max Kohl and Jamien Moore, who combined for 240 yards and four touchdowns on the ground. Gavin Wollum was 5-of-7 passing and completed a 74 yard touchdown pass to his fellow senior Aiden Hansen. 

“Lisbon is a good team, very solid on both sides of the ball,” Morel said. 

Highland senior Yahir Jimenez led the Huskies with 8.5 tackles, including six solo stops on Friday. Logan Bonebrake had six tackles, Connor Grinstead had five and Kolton Miller finished with 4.5 tackles and one tackle for loss. 

Brenton Bonebrake caught two passes for 11 yards and added 10 yards on the ground.
