Bouncing back from their first loss of the season with a winning effort, the Huskies (5-1) came away with a 6-1 road victory over Sigourney Keota (0-6) last Thursday.

It was a hat trick for Jared Diaz as the Highland senior scored twice in the first half and once more in the second half. Diaz has been on a scoring tear in his final year of Highland soccer and through six games he leads the team with 10 goals.

Jose Ramirez also recorded multiple goals against the Cobras. The sophomore scored the first goal of the game and after Sigourney Keota scored an equalizer, Ramirez found the back of the net again to put Highland back up.

The second half featured Highland senior Louis Horak scoring his first goal of the season to raise the lead to 5-1. Highland’s final goal came from Diaz, who also ended the game with a team high two assists.

It was another impressive defensive effort for the Huskies. They held the Cobras scoreless in the second half and senior goalkeeper Ayden Havel recorded 10 saves.

Mediapolis 5, Highland 0

A challenging conference clash on the road, the visiting Huskies were shut out for the first time this season and defeated by Mediapolis (6-2) last Monday.

The Bulldogs scored twice in the first half to go into halftime with the lead. With four minutes left in the half Highland’s senior goalkeeper Ayden Havel left the field due to an apparent injury and did not return to the game.

Mediapolis continued to control the game in the second half, keeping Highland off the scoreboard and adding three more goals to its lead to eventually capture its sixth victory of the season.

Up next for Highland (5-2) is a home contest against WACO (3-4) on April 24.
