Highland’s softball team dropped two contests last week in South East Iowa Super Conference Northern Division action this past week.
The Huskies battled top-five ranked Wapello to a 12-6 final last Monday and fell to Winfield-Mount Union 3-2 this past Thursday.
Michelle Ossman lit up the Arrows for two, including a triple and also drove in two runs. Tamra Swailes finished the game with two runs scored and two hits including a double, while Jenny Sweeting doubled and scored twice.
“Hey, we hit (Barb) Connelly better than we did the first time we saw her,” coach Dan Stout said. “We pieced together a four-run, four-hit sixth inning against her.
Wapello broke the game open with a seven-run rally over the fifth and sixth innings.
Winfield needed a three-run fourth inning rally to claim their 3-2 win over the Huskies.
“Errors killed us,” Stout said. “All three of their runs in the fourth inning scored on errors.” Highland finished the game with five errors.
Krista Burich and Sweeting had two hits each to lead the Highland offense.
