Beachy, Leichty, Ibrohimovic take all-conference honors

Both the Iowa Mennonite School’s varsity boys and girls cross country teams finished third overall at the Southeast Iowa Superconference meet held Thursday at IMS. IMS runners Kurt Beachy, Mary Leichty, and first-time runner Muska Ibrohimovic were named to the all-conference team based on their finishing orders.

The IMS boys took third in the team standings with 104 points to second place Danville with 94 and surprise conference champ Van Buren with 83 points. Fort Madison Aquinas was fourth with 106 points as runner Justin Pieper won the race in 16:15.

Kurt Beachy was fifth overall in the boys varsity race with a time of 16:42. Ben Moore was 18th overall with a time of 18:35. Tristan Miller took 22nd with 18:54 while Austin Miller came home in 29th with a time of 19:14. Justin Brokaw rounded out the scored runners with a 32nd place 19:30. Number three runner Jeff Miller was unable to compete due to an injury.

Jerry Etheredge and Jon Zasadny move up to varsity for this meet, finishing in 40th with 19:44 and 44th with 19:48 respectively.

Pekin won the overall in the varsity girls race with 34 points. Second was Fairfield with 63 points. IMS scored 65 points.

Mary Leichty and Muska Ibrohimovic garnered top-10 finishes and all-conference honors. Leichty took fifth with a time of 13:20 and Ibrohimovic was tenth with 13:47.

Natalie Marner was 20th overall with a time of 14:18, Hannah Rumsey was 30th with 14:50 and Kidron Brokaw took 33rd with a time of 15:06.

IMS runner Larry Lockett won the boys junior varsity race with a time of 20:06. Brian Rumsey was third with 20:47 and Caleb Yoder took fifth with 20:55. Erin Shrock was the lone IMS runner in the girls JV race, finishing ninth with a time of 16:19.
