The Maroon and Black team wins

The Iowa Mennonite girls basketball team won their second game of the season, Jan. 14 against Winfield Mount Union, 59-49.

Coach Lisa Graber said, “The girls played really hard tonight. They finally put a whole game together.”

Graber was impressed with how her team took care of the ball and their patience on offense.

IMS only committed 13 turnovers and shot 25 of 50 from the field.

The Maroon and Black team fell behind early and at the end of the first quarter WMU led 16-11.

IMS made a run in the second quarter to steal the lead, 31-25 at halftime. They maintained their lead the whole second half of the game.

Senior Lori Miller had 16 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Sophomore Tiffany TeBockhorst added 12 points, six rebounds and four assists, while senior Kristi Miller had 10 points and two steals.

Freshman Tanna Yoder grabbed a team-high eight boards.

Coach Graber said, “They played really intense defense.

They earned this win.”

IMS can’t stop the Bulldogs

Despite the final score of 58-47 with Mediapolis on top, Coach Lisa Graber said her team played one of its best game of the season, Jan. 11.

In the end, Mediapolis’s full court defensive pressure was too much for the Maroon and Black team.

IMS and Mediapolis traded baskets in the first quarter and the Bulldogs only led by four at the end of the first quarter.

The Maroon and Black team sparked a run in the middle of the second quarter when Yoder and Lori Miller scored for IMS.

But Mediapolis’s defense quickly forced IMS to turn the ball over.

Kristi Miller and TeBockhorst hit key shots with less than two minutes in the second quarter, which IMS went into the locker room only down by three points.

Mediapolis didn’t budge in the second half and continued to hold their lead.

Coach Graber said, “The girls played hard and were very intense. But it’s time we step up and rise to another level.

“We need to start getting the little things done and become more mentally tough.”

L. Miller had 15 points, two steals, three assists and six rebounds to lead the Maroon and Black team.

K. Miller added 10.

Junior Jessica Doty and Nicki Slaubaugh both dished out three assists.

IMS(47)- Ranee Gingerich 0 0-0 0, Lori Miller 4 7-9 15, Nicole Slaubaugh 0 0-2 0, Tiffany TeBockhorst 4 0-0 8, Kristi Miller 5 0-0 10, Ashley Wilson 2 0-1 4, Jessica Doty 2 0-0 4, Tanna Yoder 3 0-1 6. Totals 20 7-13 47.
