IMS’s streak continues…

IMS continued their winning streak Dec. 7 when they defeated Winfield Mount Union, 79-50.

Coach Dwight Gingerich was impressed with his team’s performance. “I really like this team’s effort and the improved play of our younger players.”

Sophomore Nolan Yoder sparked IMS’s offense with his impressive 12 points and 11 rebounds. Others that contributed were sophomore Shawn Slaubaugh and senior Jace Bailey both scored 12 points. Sophomore Adam Yoder added 11 points.

Senior Chuck Miller ripped down nine rebounds. Bailey followed with eight boards.

Coach Gingerich said, “We also took better care of the ball in tonight’s game.”

The Maroon and Black team only committed 12 turnovers.

An 11-2 run at the end of the half gave IMS a 36-22 half-time lead over the Wolves of WMU. IMS dominated the third quarter, 60-31.

Every player on IMS’s roster scored.

Winfield Mount Union’s post player and second leading scorer, Vince Klaptenstein went down with an ankle sprain in the first quarter.

Senior Luke Gingerich and junior Justin Brokaw led the offense with four assists apiece.

IMS advanced to the finals of the conference tournament, Dec. 11.

The Maroon and Black team defeated Keokuk Cardinal Stritch, 75-40.

IMS got off to a slow start, but began hitting their shots midway throught the second quarter.

A 23-6 third quarter run gave IMS a 57-30 lead going into the fourth quarter.

Five different IMS players connected on a total of eight three-pointers.

Coach Gingerich said, “Our ball movement really improved against the zone as the game progressed and we were able to get some good looks on the outside and inside.”

Gingerich led IMS with 17 points. Bailey followed with 11.

Slaubaugh and Yoder both added 10.

Senior Chuck Miller grabbed nine rebounds.

IMS held Stritch to 30 percent field goal shooting.

This win advances them to the conference final against undefeated Fort Madison Aquinas, Dec. 18 at Mount Pleasant.

IMS is 5-0 on the season.
