M-P concert reset
The Mid-Prairie Winter Concert, cancelled Monday due to the fog, is re-set for Monday, December 20, at 7:30 p.m. at the high school. The Mid-Prairie Board of Education meeting, also cancelled was re-scheduled to Monday also, at 7 p.m. in the high school library.
Early mail dispatch through December 23
Early dispatch of mail started December 6 and continues through December 23, which means all items deposited by 3 p.m. will leave at that time to receive priority processing. Mail will be collected from the outside collection box Sunday, December 19 at 3 p.m. Mail deposited in the post office after noon Saturday will not be dispatched until 5 p.m. the following Monday.
Retirement parties set at county safety center
A retirement party to honor Sgt. Gary (Tex) Redlinger of Kalona is Monday, December 20, from 2-4 p.m. in the Washington County Safety Center. Another party to honor Major Jack L. Dillon is set for Wednesday, December 29, from 2-4 p.m. at the Center. Presentations to the retiring officers will be at 3 p.m. at each event.
Tree winner announced
The winner of the 12 ft. Blue Spruce Christmas tree donated by Cyndi Koehler of Coldwell Banker Real Estate Professionals of Iowa City and Barbara Longoria of Kalona is Mark Swartzendruber of Kalona.
Humane Society plans Open House Saturday
The Washington County Humane Society will hold an Open House at its shelter, 1004 1/2 West Madison St., Washington, Saturday, December 18, from 1-5 p.m. Donations of cookies and other things for refreshments will be accepted, as well as pet-related items and seasonal ornaments to sell during the event. There will be a drawing for door prizes.
Kalona library offers holiday Storytime
A special School’s Out Storytime for all ages is set for December 22 and 29 at the Kalona Public Library. Both are 10:30-11:30 a.m. The December 22 program features Tree of Cranes by Allen Fay and papercraft and origami activities. The second program has assorted short children’s videos.
Puppet workshop set at Owl Glass
The Eulenspiegel Puppet Theater staff will conduct a children’s puppet making workshop at Owl Glass Puppetry Center, 319 Calhoun St., West Liberty, Wednesday, December 29, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. To register, call the Center at 319-627-2487.
Theatre Cedar Rapids sets auditions
Theatre Cedar Rapids, 102 3rd St. SE, has open auditions December 19 and 20 at 7 p.m. for women ages 12 and older and men, ages 16 and older for The Diary of Anne Frank. Performances are February 4-20 and include four weekday school matinees. Additional information and scripts are available at the TCR business office, 319-366-8592, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. weekdays.
Genealogical Society offers past calendar
The Washington County Genealogical Society has combined past and future in its 2000 Calendar of Washington County’s Past. The special issue is available for $6 from the Society at P. O. Box 446, Washington, Iowa 52353.
