Mid-Prairie Board meets Monday, October 11
The Mid-Prairie Board of Education meets in regular session Monday, October 11, at 7:30 p.m. in the high school. Agenda items include the contracts for home school assistants, discussion of the PPEL Fund and levy, bank bids and the maintenance director contract. There also will be a report about the district’s science curriculum and about the district’s communications plan.
IMS sets fall concert
Iowa Mennonite School’s annual fall music concert is Friday, October 11, starting at 7 p.m. The program features the Orchestra, Chorale, Concert Choir and various other ensembles under the direction of Bradley Kauffman. The program is open to the public without charge.
Governor in Iowa City
Governor Tom Vilsack will be in Iowa City Thursday, October 7, from 6-8 p.m. to assist Democratic efforts in the coming elections. The event is at the First Avenue Club, 1550 S. lst Avenue with entertainment provided by the Saul Lubaroff Jazz Group.
Bagpipe music, lore in Washington
John Michael Hughes, a piper, and Fingal, his Scottie, both of St. Paul, Minnesota, will present a special program about bagpipe music and lore in the Washington YMCA/YWCA Thursday, October 21, from 12:30-1:30 p.m. There is no charge, but free-will donations will be accepted.
Set Women’s Leadership Conference in CR
The Professional Women’s Network will hold its Women’s Ways of Leadership Conference Friday, October 15, in the Collins Plaza Hotel, 1200 Collins Road NE, Cedar Rapids, starting at 8 a.m. with registration. Featured speaker is Christine Grant, athletic director at the University of Iowa. For more information call 319-366-7679.
Deadline for livestock program October 13
Deadline to sign-up for the Livestock Indemnity Program (LIP) in Johnson County is October 13. The program is an emergency assistance program administered by the Farm Service Agency (FSA) to help producers who suffered losses from natural disasters between June 13 and July 15, 1998 in Johnson County.
