M-P bands and choirs perform at Fall Festival

The Mid-Prairie Middle School and High School bands and choirs will perform at the Kalona Fall Festival Friday. Times are 1:10 p.m., 7th-8th band; 1:20 p.m., 6th choir; 1:30 p.m., 7th-8th choir; 1:40 p.m., high school choir; 1:50 p.m., high school band. The 7th-8th band marches downtown at 2:15 p.m. to perform at the intersection of B Ave. and 5th St., then to Kalona Elementary School.

Fall equinox star show planned at Marr Park

The Washington County Astronomy Club and the Washington County Conservation Board will hold a fall equinox star show at Marr Park on the mini-lake’s pond levee, Saturday, September 18, starting at 8 p.m. Two large telescopes will be set up, and members of the Washington County Astronomy Club will be on hand to help. Thunder-McGuire speaks in Cedar Rapids

Steve Thunder-McGuire of rural Kalona, will give a presentation at the Cedar Rapids Museum of Art, 410 3rd Ave. SE, September 19 at 1:30 p.m. McGuire, a professor of art education at the University of Iowa, will tell about his bicycle trips as part of Target Free Family Day at the museum.

Train show, swap meet planned in Washington

The Washington County Model Railroad Club will hold its 16th annual train show and swap meet Sunday, September 26, from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. in the Knights of Columbus Hall, 606 West 3rd St., Washington. 'Lil Miss Washington

pageant scheduled

Entrants are sought for The ‘Lil Miss Washington and Miss Washington Scholarship pageants for the 2000 Miss Iowa Pageant. The first is for girls ages 6-10, the second for women ages 17-24. For more information call Melissa Rogerson, 319-653-5648.

Albright paintings at IC theater

A series of oil paintings by Craig Albright, the 1996 Charles Lanham Travel Fellowship winners, will be shown at Riverside Theater, 213 N. Gilbert St., Iowa City, through September 26. Hours are noon-5 p.m. Monday-Friday and an hour prior to evening performances.

Annual coalition meeting set in Minnesota

The 12th American Coalition for Ethanol annual meeting and conference is November 10-11 at the Best Western Kelly Inn, St. Cloud, Minnesota. There is no fee; only cost is for meals. Legacy of Quilts show set in Cedar Rapids

The East Iowa Heirloom Quilters will present their 11th show, Legacy of Quilts at Teamsters Hall, 5000 J St. SW, Cedar Rapids, September 17-19. Admission is charged, and proceeds from the show’s silent auction will aid the fight against breast cancer. Proceeds from the show provide funds for educational scholarships and the Share Our Skills project that donates comforters to various shelters.
