United Fund meets

Members of the Kalona United Fund will meet Monday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. in the Kalona Community Center.

Mid-Prairie Board meets Monday, July 26

The Mid-Prairie Board of Education meets Monday, July 26, at 7:30 p.m. at Wellman Elementary School. Agenda items include Phase III report, completion of the high school construction project, the fire marshal’s report and ISAB legislative action priorities.

Kalona Chamber meets

Ken Stone, professor of economics at Iowa State University, is the featured speaker for the Kalona Area Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon July 26, in the Chamber Building. The agenda includes nomination of officers for 1999-2000. Officers will be elected in August and take office in September.

IMS sets registration

Registration at Iowa Mennonite School is Tuesday, July 27 through Friday, July 30. Hours are 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. and the schedule is Tuesday, all incoming 9th graders; Wednesday, 11th graders (and students not attending the St. Louis Youth Convention); Thursday, 10th graders and Friday, 12th graders. Students are to meet with guidance counselor Dwight Gingerich to confirm class schedules and with Principal Wilbur Yoder and bookkeeper Kris Brenneman to finalize payment plans and pay preliminary fees. Classes start August 18.

Library program plans concluding party

The summer program at the Kalona Public Library concludes with parties Monday, 2-3 p.m., Wednesday, 10:30-11:30 a.m., and Friday, noon to 1 p.m. which is a pizza lunch in the dining room of the Kalona Community Center with the Kalona Rotary Club.

ADD expert speaks at seminar July 26

Dr. J. C. Cluney, nationally known expert on Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) will speak at a free seminar Monday, July 26, starting at 6:30 p.m. in the Kalona Chamber of Commerce Building., 514 B Ave. Sponsored by HealthSource, Inc. of Springfield, Illinois, the program will deal with Cluney’s use of natural protocols (vitamins, minerals and herbs) for ADD, ADHD and depression. Democrats set listening post for farm crisis

Iowa Democrats will hold a listening post about the farm price crisis starting at 10 a.m., July 24, in the U.A.W. Hall, Local 838, in Waterloo. State officials, legislative leaders and others will be available to discuss solutions to the current crisis. There will be a noon fund raiser luncheon featuring Iowa Senator Paul Wellstone.

Annual F Troop reunion

Cavalry reenactors and veterans will parade through Washington July 24 at 11 a.m. as part of the reunion of the 113th Iowa National Guard Cavalry Troop F. Parade starts at Troop F headquarters, 219 Elm Grove Road. The public may join reenactors (in authentic costumes) at F Troop headquarters following the parade for speakers and demonstrations of military equipment. Lunch will be available, as well as tours of the Troop’s museum. Final event is a USO dinner at the VFW Club in Washington. This year’s program coincides with the reunion of the Red Horse Division, actual Troop F veterans.
