Children’s programs cancelled at library

All children’s programs at the Kalona Public Library are cancelled until further notice. This includes the regular Storytime.

Kalona Days meeting

A meeting for those interested in planning Kalona Days 2000 is set for Thursday, January 13, at 5:30 p.m. at Ellen’s Sewing Center.

Semi-annual blood drive

The Kalona Optimist Club, in cooperation with the Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center, will hold a semi-annual blood drive Monday, January 17, from 1:30-6:30 p.m. in the Kalona Mennonite Church. Appointments may be made by calling Anna or Ed Yoder, 656-2134. Walk-ins also are welcome. First time donors will receive a travel mug.

Mid-Prairie Board meets Monday, January 10

The Mid-Prairie Board of Education meets in regular session Monday, January 10, at 7 p.m. at the high school. Agenda items include a request to the state to aid with Highway 22 safety, setting a date for the PPEL levy and a report about no problems with Y2K.

Grassley in Washington

U.S. Senator Charles Grassley will be the guest for an informal coffee at Breadeaux in Washington at 8 a.m., Friday, January 7. The event, arranged by the Washington Chamber of Commerce’s Government Relations Committee, is open to the public.

IMS Spanish students set fund-raiser

A fund-raising event, the sale of Taco-in-a-Bag, will be held at the Iowa Mennonite School Alumni Night, Friday, January 7. Serving starts at 5:30 p.m., and kolaches also will be available. Funds benefit the Spanish students’ trip to Costa Rica.

Glucose screening clinic set in Ainsworth

A special glucose screening clinic is set for Thursday, January 20, at Ainsworth Town View Village. It is free, but donations will be accepted. For appointments, call Gazena Havel, 319-657-2742. The clinic is sponsored by the Washington County Health and Home Care.

Public Art Commission seeks entries for show

The Ames Public Art Commission seeks entries for its 4th annual Art Around the Corner Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit set for May -April 2001 in the Ames Main Street district. Up to eight sculptures will be displayed. Artists residing in Iowa or bordering states may submit up to three entries. Those selected will receive a $200 honorarium, and the works may be offered for sale. Deadline for slide entries is January 31.
