KES Boosters plan fund-raiser January 19
The Kalona Elementary School Boosters will hold a taco supper fund-raiser Wednesday, January 19, from 5-7 p.m. at the school. Cost is strictly a free will donation and proceeds will be used for educational supplies and playground equipment purchases. Next Booster meeting is February 1, 6:30 p.m., at the school.
Democrats set caucus
Kalona area democrats will hold their caucus Monday, January 24, at 7 p.m. in the Kalona Community Center. The republicans will announce caucus locations later this week.

Girl Scout cookie sale
Members of the local Girl Scout troops will be selling Girl Scout Cookies from January 14-28, and will be offering them door-to-door. If you are interested in ordering cookies, but were not contacted by a Girl Scout, call Beth at 319-656-4515 to place orders.
JW’s Foods winner
Helen E. Yoder of Wellman is the winner of the $50 gift certificate given by Affiliated Foods and Pillsbury at JW’s Foods, Kalona.
Legislative briefing set in Washington
The first of three legislative briefings, sponsored by the Washington Chamber of Commerce’s Government Relations Committee, is Saturday, January 15, from 8-10 a.m. in the second floor courtroom, Washington County courthouse. Area legislators invited to the session are Representative Sandy Greiner, District 96; Representative Dave Heaton, District 59; Senator H. Kay Hedge, 48th District and Senator Mark Shearer, 49th District. For more information, call the Chamber, 319-653-3272.
DOT Permit Center closed January 17
The Iowa Department of Transportation’s Regional Permit Center, 100 Euclid Ave., Des Moines, will be closed for the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday, January 17.
The Center closes at 4 p.m. January 15 and reopens at 6 a.m., Tuesday, January 18.
Regional festival set in Amana Colonies
The 9th annual Iowa Renaissance Festival and Harvest Faire moves from the State Fairgrounds, Des Moines, to Middle Amana Park, Labor Day weekend, September 2-4. Hours are 11 a.m.-6 p.m. The program features a number of artists and artisans from 15 different states, as well as living history re-enactments and demonstrations. Admission is charged.

Children’s programs cancelled at library
All children’s programs at the Kalona Public Library are cancelled until further notice. This includes the regular Storytime.
Kalona Days meeting
A meeting for those interested in planning Kalona Days 2000 is set for Thursday, January 13, at 5:30 p.m. at Ellen’s Sewing Center.
