Four area individuals ran at the state cross country meet on Saturday in Fort Dodge.
In the Class 2A boys race, Nathan Wallington and Jamison Stutzman ran the first state meet of their career. Wallington finished in 60th place, running 17:47.
Stutzman was 129th in 19:42.
In the Class 1A girls race, both runners improved on last year's race. Highland junior Madi Thomann made a large jump after a 99th place finish in 2018. She improved by nearly 90 seconds to run a 21:21 and finish in 63rd place.
Hillcrest Academy sophomore Leah Bontrager finished in 67th place, five spots higher than last season with a time of 21:22.
