Local student inventors will display their creativity Tuesday, January 26, at Wellman Elementary School when the local level convention of the Invent Iowa competition takes place.
Students will set up their displays at noon in the school’s art room with judging set for 2:25-3:10 p.m.
Local winners advance to regional competition in Cedar Rapids Wednesday, March 3. Regional winners go on to the state level.
The local winners will be announced at 7 p.m. during the school’s Open House program that is set for 6:30 -7:15 p.m.
Student inventors are 5th graders Tobin F isher and Sheila Wendt and 4th graders Amanda Fisher and Courtney Wilkinson from Kalona Elementary; 5th graders Alex Stutzman, Nate Yoder and Ryan Allen and 4th grader Christian Miller, all from Washington Township Elementary, and Emily Hershberger, Liz Ulin, Hannah Ney, Brett Miller and Jeremy Miller, 4th graders, Marcus Clarahan and Austin Bayliss, 5th graders, from Wellman Elementary, and Jose Stutzman, 7th grade Middle School student.
Students are coached by Julie Zahs, the district’s elementary STP teacher.
