Jerry K. Deitrich, 52, of Frytown, died Saturday, July 3, 1999, following a lengthy illness.
Services were Monday, July 5, in Peterseim Funeral Home, Kalona, with the Reverends Gene Carpenter and Judy Gingerich. Burial was in Memory Gardens, Iowa City, with graveside military services by Richmond AMVETS Post 107.
Born February 11, 1947, in Sigourney, he was the son of Lloyd and Virginia (Sipes) Deitrich. He graduated from Sigourney High School in 1965 and served in the United States Army from 1965-1977. He was recalled during the Desert Storm Operation in 1990 and served an additional nine months. He was in the Army Reserves for five years.
He married Judy Hochstedler August 26, 1971 in Iowa City. Mr. Deitrich was a correctional officer for the 6th Judicial District from 1978-1998 and was a member of Richmond AMVET Post #107. He attended Wellman Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Judy; one son and daughter-in-law, Justin and Vicki Deitrich of Coralville; three sisters and two brothers-in-law, Garland and Gene Seaba, Blakesburg, Sarah Smithart, Sigourney, and Sherry and Tony Hammes, Jackson, Missouri; five brothers and five sisters-in-law, Bill and Colleen Deitrich, Sigourney, John and Ruth Deitrich, Davenport, Jim and Charlotte Deitrich, Sigourney, twin brother Garry and Judy Deitrich, Ollie, and Ronnie ‘Megee’ and Jane Deitrich, Cedar Rapids.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother-in-law, Earl Smithart, in March, 1999.
Memorials may be made to Iowa City Hospice.
Peterseim Funeral Service, Kalona, in charge of arrangements.
