A juvenile is in detention in connection with a series of burglaries committed in Wellman late Thursday or early Friday morning.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Department received reports June 4 of break-ins at R & A Conoco, Dawson’s Barber Shop and Longwell Realty in Wellman. Cash and cigarettes were taken from the businesses, police said.
During the investigation a juvenile suspect was identified and further information revealed that the suspect was responsible for the three current burglaries and two previous break-ins in Wellman at the Wellman Lumber Company May 31 and Ideal Ready Mix Concrete May 22.
Police said he also was involved in similar incidents in Keokuk County.
The investigation involved deputies in the Washington County and Keokuk County sheriff departments.
Charges in the five Washington County burglaries are pending and the incidents remain under investigation. Authorities said additional charges are possible.
