The new, culvert style bridge on C Aven…
By Kalona News
It’s not just a better bridge, it’s the best of its kind.
The new, culvert style bridge on C Avenue was singled out as the best of its kind built in 1998.
The awards were presented January 29 by the Associated General Contractors of Iowa and the Iowa Department of Transportation for the 1998 Quality Initiative Structures Awards.
The awards program was part of the annual Structural Design-Construction Quality Workshop held at Iowa State University, Ames.
The goal was to recognize structures built in Iowa that demonstrated superior quality of workmanship in construction and design. Recognition went to all involved in the project.
Besides the City of Kalona, awards for the C Avenue Twin RCB Culvert went to Division Constructors of West Chester; Bill Bringman, Division Constructors Company; Bill G. Minor, Washington County Engineer’s; Office; Calhoun-Burns & Associates, Inc., West Des Moines; L.L. Pelling Company, Inc.; D & N Fence Co,; A-Seeding Contractor, Inc.; G & R Miller Construction; Contractors Steel Corporation; Ideal Ready Mix Company, Inc.; Engineering Fabric; Martin Marietta Aggregates and Washington County.
The approximate $267,000 bridge project was completed in September.
