The splash pad was turned on Saturday, but there were no eager splashers as the morning of May 3 was a cool, cloudy 56°. But that didn’t stop the Kalona community from celebrating the official grand opening of Vista Ridge Park in Southtown, over 100 acres of recreational space that includes dog parks, accessible playground equipment, a fishing pond, and restrooms.
Kalona City staff and council members, Washington County Riverboat Foundation and Washington County Conservation board members cut the ribbon; the community turned out to enjoy cookies, wash dogs, and take spins on the merry-go-round.
Project partners included WCRF, Washington County Conservation, Iowa Economic Development, C.J. Moyna & Sons, Martin Gardner Architecture, and MSA Professional Services.
