Library Summer Reading Program
Olivia Kahler, Director of Youth Services, reported to the Council on the Summer Reading Program at the Kalona Public Library. 304 children signed up for the program this year, an increase of 36 children over last year.
This year’s program included several new events, including an African drum circle, sparkle hoops, cardboard crazy day, and a visit from a park ranger from Fossil Gorge. The most popular of the new events was an inflatable obstacle course.
A total of 1765 people participated in the library’s programs this year.
“You guys helped out a lot. It was awesome. All of the community help this year was great. I don’t think I got told no once,” Kahler told the Council.
YMCA Update
City Administrator Ryan Schlabaugh alerted the Council that a water leak has damaged Mid-Prairie Middle School’s gym floor, and it will not be usuable for athletic activities until it has been repaired. As a result, the school will require greater use of the YMCA than usual for games and practices, and the public may experience some disruption during the fall semester consequently.
Future Dates
The next City Council meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 7 to allow for the Labor Day holiday on Monday. A Work Session has been set for 6 p.m. prior to the meeting.
