Kalona Days needs entries for talent show and races

The Kalona Days committee needs a little help. Specifically, it needs entrants for the Friday night talent show and a little footwork for the bed races and grocery cart races.

“Right now we don’t have any entries for the races,” said Kalona Days Chairman Tina Swartzendruber. And, she added, more performers are needed for the talent show.

A meeting to further plan and promote the event, set for June 18-19, is at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 22, in the conference room at Hills Bank Kalona. The meeting is open to anyone interested in the event.

“This is really a local event for the local people,” said Swartzendruber, expressing the hope that more would be interested.

To date, the committee has not received any entries in the What Kalona Means to Me poster contest.

“We had hoped to have posters up and around town,” she said.

Even more important is food, and, to date, no group, organization, business or individual, has indicated any interest in providing any. Food vendors could be at the City Park or downtown, and could move locations. The only requirement is that they could not be set up in both places at the same time.

The main Kalona Days highlight is a downtown parade, planned for June 19, as well as numerous children’s activities and a Fun Run that starts in the City Park.
