Some 90 people attended the annual Kalona High School Alumni Association’s annual banquet Saturday, May 15, in the Kalona Mennonite Church where the Class of 1949 (above) was the honored 50-year class. Of the 14 member graduating class, two are deceased, and seven were at the banquet with their respective spouses. A surprise guest was their former teacher, Mr. Phillips, who has a 59-year teaching career (he is still doing college level classes). The oldest surviving graduate of Kalona High School is 98-year old Gertrude Lahey (Class of 1919) who resides at Parkview Manor, Wellman.
