Troy Anthony Shepherd, 32, of A Ave., Kalona was arrested Friday, May 14, on multiple charges after attempting to flee police.

Shepherd is in the Johnson County jail on charges of 4th degree theft (bond $1,600), four Coralville Police Department warrants, two felony warrants for possession of firearm by a felon and lst degree robbery (bond $24,750) and two charges of eluding and driving under suspension (bond $3,900). In addition, charges are pending in Washington County regarding Shepherd’s flight from police Friday.

According to police, the Washington County Safety Center received a tip Friday that Shepherd, who was wanted on multiple charges, was located at a residence on A Ave. An off-duty sheriff’s deputy saw Shepherd leaving the residence and followed him north on Highway l.

Shepherd then attempted to elude officers, the report says, and the pursuit ensued into Johnson County. Shepherd was considered armed and dangerous, and Washington and Johnson counties’ authorities were joined by Iowa State Patrol in the chase to force Shepherd’s vehicle off the highway. The Shepherd vehicle rolled onto its top and Shepherd attempted to elude officers on foot.

He was later apprehended and taken to the Johnson County jail in Iowa City.

Coralville police reported that Shepherd had taken $280 worth of tools from Sears in the Coral Ridge Mall March 24 and what would have been a theft charge became lst degree robbery because Shepherd ran away, fought with security guards and pulled a knife.

Police reported that Shepherd was nearly apprehended March 25 when they attempted to stop a vehicle he was believed to be driving, but he did not stop.

Shepherd had been sought for some time on the Coralville warrant.

Following Friday’s accident, Shepherd was treated at University Hospitals.
