KALONA
The Early American Pattern Glass Society will hold its central states regional gathering in Kalona June 20-21. The non-profit group of collectors and dealers has a full weekend of activities planned, including a glassware sale open to the public on Saturday afternoon.
The Society, founded in 1994, fosters and encourages the collection, appreciation, study, preservation, and documentation of Early American Pattern Glassware, its makers, and its place in American life, past and present. The Society also hosts the largest database of pattern names and photos on its Pattern ID site, which contains more than 7,000 patterns and 60,000 photos at present.
Society members will gather at the Kalona Historical Village Friday, June 20 before departing for a bus tour, where they will stop at bakery, gift, wood, and buggy shops in rural Kalona. They plan to view the antique glass collections of Rick and Renee Miller and enjoy the evening meal at Miller Homestead Cooking.
On Saturday, June 21, the Society will conduct their Central States Business Meeting over local coffee and donuts, then hear a presentation on Kalona’s Amish/Mennonite history by Dr. Tom Meyer.
From 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Society will open its glass sale to the public at the Kalona Historical Village’s visitor center.
In the evening, the Society will end their day with dinner and a farm and horse barn tour.
This year the Early American Pattern Glass Society will hold their Annual Meeting in Weston, West Virginia, home of the Museum of American Glass. The meeting takes place July 13-15.
